The Earth Breaking Ceremony for KAA’s New Vocational Training Building was officiated by YB Dato Sri Hjh Fatimah Abdullah, Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development.
The New Building will have vocational training rooms, kitchens, art rooms, music rooms, computer rooms and job simulation training settings. There will be more training and employment opportunities for adults with autism, in the proposed Café, Bakery, Art Gallery, Shop, Laundrette and Car Wash.
The construction cost of the New Building is RM5,117,224.00, and the construction is expected to be completed in about 15 months. Kuching Autistic Association (KAA) would like to record our deepest gratitude to YAB Premier Sarawak for the substantial Grant of RM4,179.000 towards the construction of the New Building. The strong support from the Sarawak Government has enabled KAA to expand our services for children and adults with autism, to cater for the educational and training needs of children from the age of 3 years old to adulthood. Our grateful thanks to corporate sponsors, service clubs, Associations, NGOs and individuals, who have contributed funds towards the construction of the new building.
Today’s earth breaking ceremony marks another milestone in KAA’s journey. But there is still some way to go. We will continue to need funds to equip and furnish the New Building, and we will definitely need the support of corporate sponsors, Associations and individuals, to continue raising funds for KAA’s operating funds. Our annual operating cost is about RM1.3 million, and we anticipate this to increase, once the New Building is operational. Funding is also needed for the next Building Project, which will be a Group Home for adults with autism; a place where people with autism can stay until the end of their days, when their parents can no longer care for them.
