Training in living skills is part of the vocational training for Sunshine Hub trainees and Secondary Instruction Program students at KAA. Our students engage in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities aimed at fostering practical skills and independence. Outdoor tasks include sweeping the compound, weeding, planting and watering plants, and disposing of rubbish. Indoor tasks include wiping windows, sweeping and mopping the floors, and other general cleaning tasks. These activities not only contribute to the maintenance of the Centre, but also provide a structured environment for skill development and a sense of accomplishment for the students. The program emphasizes the importance of routine tasks to enhance daily living skills, promote social interaction, and create a supportive community within the Centre.
Gardening as a vocational training can offer valuable skills for individuals with autism, providing a therapeutic and educational experience. Cultivating plants enhances sensory awareness, develops fine motor skills, and fosters a sense of responsibility. This hands-on approach allows individuals to learn valuable vocational skills while enjoying the therapeutic benefits of nature.
