KUCHING: The 4th Kuching Run for Autism organized by Kuching Autistic Association (KAA) on Sunday 28 April 2019, saw a record number of participants, with 3,300 taking part in 3 KM and 7 KM Runs. The Run start and finish were at Majlis Bandaraya Kuching Selatan (MBKS) Building Compound.
The event started with a 15 minute warm up aerodance session, led by the staff of Kuching Autistic Association. At 6.30 a.m., the 7 KM Run was flagged off by the Main Sponsor, Mr Stephen Wong from LIENDAK, and at 6.45 am, the 3 KM Run was flagged off. Other Sponsors in attendance were Mr Lee Chin Teck and Mr Francis Hui from Tecktonic & Sons Holdings.
Dato Dr Yao Sik Chi, President of KAA and Mr Stephen Wong of LIENDAK gave away lucky draw prizes and presented mementos to the sponsors, after the Run was completed. The organizing chairperson, Ms Cynthia Jee was glad to see more participation this year. She mentioned “With the increased number of participants, KAA believes that Autism Awareness has been created through Autism Run in year 2016, 2017 and 2018. The momentum of the previous Runs has been maintained with 3,300 participants today. This shows that society is aware and is beginning to accept children and young adults with Autism. This year’s tagline is “Autism : See The Ability”. We want society to see the unique abilities of children and adults with Autism, support, encourage and celebrate their achievements.” To showcase the students’ talents and abilities, banners with photos of KAA students doing artwork, beadwork, baking, cooking, laundry and performing action songs were displayed at the Start/Finish points.
Kuching Run for Autism 2019 was wholly organised by a team of KAA parents, with the support of many sponsors, who contributed cash, vouchers and lucky draw prizes. Many volunteers assisted throughout the event preparation and on the event day itself. Together, it was another successful Kuching Run for Autism.
